RIP Max

Max died today.
My lovely fun loving bouncy dog died.
He was on the drive when a van went past and he ran to it and the van killed him. The driver slowed down but did not even stop.
He died straight away.
I carried him half way down the drive home, then left him and ran screaming for Andy.  Naomi, our neighbour had heard me screaming and had come to see what had happened and was really upset as well.
Andy came with Max's basket and wrapped him in his blanket to take him back to the house.
We will bury him tomorrow.
I cannot stop crying. it is my fault this lovely puppy died

Oh dear 50. That's really sad. You must be distraught and furious at the same time. Poor Max.

Oh I am so sorry that this has happened - please don't blame yourself when Dyl was a puppy he did all sorts of dangerous stuff whilst I was in control including getting onto the road. Take care.

I just posted yesterday on the emotions I am going through with the loss of several of "my precious pets" and no matter how you try, it's hard to deal with loosing something you cared so much for.Pop tries to comfort me in telling me how his Grandfather use to say,"If you can just keep death out of the house,be thankful,"but even that does not seem to help that much. When we love,we love, and when we loose something or someone we love,it hurts.I am so sorry for your loss.

Oh goodness, how awful. I am so sorry for you. You must be absolutely heartbroken.
This is my worst nightmare with Lulu. Dogs will be dogs, you just can't watch them all the time and you should not blame yourself. You can't reason with them like children nor can you keep them cooped up just to keep them safe. So sorry.

Thanks,50,(since I was not able to post my reply to you,on my blog ,I'll try here) I think they call it a Man Cave nowadays, where guys keep all their personal stuff, but Pop had his own space before they became popular, and he called it his poutng room.(I think he meant a place for him to go and hide out if I scold him or hurt his feelings or upset him in any way)(pout may be the word you didn't understand....to pout is to thrust out the lips, especially in displeasure or sullenness.)He simply gets a kick out of telling folks it's his pouting room, so now
we all use that term when speaking of his space.

Oh no. Poor, poor you to have seen it happen and to have had to carry him......it is not your fault at all and you mustn't blame yourself. Dogs and cats are always vulnerable to being knocked over (had a cat killed 2 years ago and a dog run over and injured too) but it really is the van driver who should have a guilty conscience for not even stopping. So sad but at least, the very least, it was mercifully quick and not lingering. xx

I am so sorry... our best friends mean so very much... I hope you find comfort with a new best friend. We had to do that, it was too painful and too quiet without a 'pup' in the house... we adopted a 7 month old Corgi mix... we call her Lucy, she has made the painful loss bearable and her love is sweet!

The very same thing very nearly happened to Lulu the other day.
I opened the front door of the house to put her in the car, having opened the gate, which we keep closed all the time. She spotted a cat on the lawn and hurtled down the drive after it as it ran out through the gate. The cat ran across the road and just missed being hit by a car. I screamed at Lulu and she stopped at the pavement edge, just in time.
A moment later and I would have been in the same state as you. You can't blame yourself, sometimes it happens no matter how hard you try to avoid it.
I hope you're beginning to feel a little better.
